I have been researching Dorset in World War II – for very many years now – and have spoken to people who remember Dorset during World War II. I am even now still finding and speaking to people – who when they were young teenagers and young children – experienced World War II Dorset directly. Obviously – those that are still relaying much of these stories are very old in age now. Nevertheless some of them remember in remarkable detail – and also even after all these very many years – with great emotion. I have also been gathering information from a wide variety of other sources – and I will be relaying much of this information – including details of a central involvement of Bournemouth (Dorset’s capital or main town) – where the troops preparing for D-Day – considerably more than 2 million – were first registered.
